Film analysis and critical writing workshop during the Carthage Film Festival

Participants will be invited to discuss and analyse a selection of films screened at the 2024 edition of the JCC, and to practise their writing skills through individual texts to be developed in groups.

Training Objectives:

This program aims to:

  • Promote the presence of film criticism and analysis in media content
  • Train participants in film analysis, critique, and writing.
  • Create critical writings on the films of the JCC (Carthage Film Festival)

Terms of participation :

- Must reside in Tunisia.

- Have written or created a publication in any public medium, including media and social networks.

- Commit to being fully available for all activities from 13 to 22 December 2024.

- Commit to writing a text to be published in the workshop magazine.

Beneficiaries:

People who regularly publish written works or media content of any form (journalists, bloggers, content creators, podcasts, reports).

Eligibility Criteria :

- Must be a film enthusiast.

- Passionate about writing or content creation.

- Interested in acquiring tools for film analysis and cinema critique.

- Be motivated by publishing content about Tunisian cinema.

Training dates and schedule:

  • Face-to-face in Tunis from 13 to 22 December 2024
  • 50 hours of training (regardless of screening time)

Speakers / Trainers


Kmar Bendana

Kmar Bendana is a professor of contemporary history at the University of La Manouba (Tunisia).
Her work and teaching focus on the history of knowledge and culture in contemporary Tunisia, including institutions such as the university, publishing and the world of cinema.

Sihem Sidaoui

Sihem Sidaoui is a Maître-assistante at the Faculty of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences of La Manouba, where she teaches literature and film analysis. After completing a PhD in Comparative Literature at the Sorbonne Nouvelle, her research has increasingly focused on the intersection of aesthetics and politics in literature and cinema. She is currently preparing her "Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches" (HDR) on the theme of "The Event" and the new Tunisian post-2011 aesthetics in literary and cinematic narratives. She is also a co-host of the cinema club at the FLAHM, with Imene Gharbi.

Imen Gharbi

Imen Gharbi is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences of La Manouba and a former student of the École Normale Supérieure in Tunis. She teaches literature and civilization and co-hosts the faculty's cinema club with Sihem Sidaoui. Currently, she is working on a Master's thesis in art history, specializing in comparative studies between literature and cinema. Her research focuses on a cross-reading of Patrick Chamoiseau and Werner Herzog, exploring themes of representation, the intersection of art and capitalism, and the relationship between art and ethics.
